CHAPIN, David M. Of Galesburg
David passed away Tuesday evening, July 21, 2009 at his home.
He was born March 30, 1932 in Kalamazoo, one of four children
to Merle and Winona (Comings) Chapin.
Dave was employed by the Upjohn Co. until his retirement in 1994.
On February 14, 1953, he was united in marriage to Doris Waldorf in
Galesburg. He was a member of the Galesburg Congregational United
Church of Christ. He spent many years wintering in Florida.
Dave enjoyed the outdoors and attending family gatherings.
Preceding him in death were his wife of 50 years, Doris Chapin; his
parents; brother, Jim Chapin; and brother-in-law, Lee Orth. Surviving
are six children, Cynthia (Robert) Sternaman of Kalamazoo, Steven
(Paulette) Chapin of Comstock, John (Teresa) Chapin of Portage, Julie
(Charlie) Vaughn of Galesburg, Tracy (Rich) Livingston of Vicksburg,
and Melissa (Lynn) Peterson of Peru; 14 grandchildren; five great-
grandchildren; two sisters, Mary (Ron) Fisher of Kalamazoo and
Betty Orth of Alaska; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for David were held at the Galesburg Congregational
United Church of Christ, 22 S. Church Street, with Rev. Whitney Brown
officiating. Interment followed in Oak Grove Cemetery, Galesburg.
Arrangements were handled by Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Galesburg
Chapel, 145 W. Battle Creek St. As an expression of sympathy,
memorial contributions may be directed to the church.
