LONGMEADOW, MA - Patricia Anne (Chapin) Campbell 82, wife of 61 years to
Gilbert M. Campbell III, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2009, with the love and
comfort of her family at her side. She died at Kindred Health Care
Parkview, Springfield.
This facility, formerly known as Springfield Municipal Hospital, was
founded through the vision and efforts of Patricia's father, the late Dr.
William A.R. Chapin and Springfield Mayor Daniel R. Brunton. Patricia
was born in Springfield on March 11, 1927, a daughter of the late Dr.
William A.R. Chapin and Anna (Mitchell) Chapin. Patricia was a
communicant of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Longmeadow, where she also
taught Sunday School and was a member of the church's Ladies Guild.
Patricia was active as a Brownie leader for the Girl Scouts in
Longmeadow.
A 30-year survivor of breast cancer, Patricia was an encouraging and
inspirational participant in the Reach to Recovery support group. She was
also employed for 25 years at Cock of The Walk, Longmeadow.
Patricia was predeceased by her sister, Carole Chapin. Besides her
husband, Patricia is survived by her son, Alaska Lt Governor Craig
Campbell and his wife Anne Marie of Anchorage; a daughter, Carolanne
Campbell and her husband Eric Elmendorf of East Longmeadow; a brother,
William A R. Chapin and his wife Karen of Gloucester; four grandchildren,
Melanie Kristin Campbell, of Alameda, Calif., Amanda Mitchell Rauckhorsi
and her husband Rick of Anchorage, Peter Campbell Elmendorf and Kate
Mitchell Elmendorf; four great-grandchildren, Emma Campbell, Faith
Rauckhorsi, Lillian Rauckhorst [sic], Kimberiy Rauekhorst [sic], and many
nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral service will be held on Monday, Sept. 28, at 1
p.m. in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Longmeadow, with burial to follow
in the Longmeadow Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions
may be made to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 335 Longmeadow St.,
Longmeadow, MA 01106. Providing care and service to the family is
Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, East Longmeadow.
