I'm sorry to say that it didn't contain Civil War Chapins. It contains
Chapins who served in the French & Indian Wars, 1754 to 1760. The Revolutionary
War 1775 to 1783. War of 1812, 1812 to 1815.
Aaron Chapin was born April 20, 1753. He was at the battle of Long Island,
Aug 27, 1776. He died Dec 25, 1838, aged 85 yrs.
Abel Chapin was born Apr 5, 1756. He enlisted in the summer of 1776 under
Col. Charles Colton and marched to Lake Champlain and was stationed at
Ticonderoga, N. Y. He was Captain of a company of government troops, under Gen
William Shepard, in the Shays Rebellion, Springfield in 1787. He died Oct ?, 1831,
aged nearly 76 years. ( He was grandfather of the compiler of this book
Charles Wells Chapin.
Information was taken from Family Documents, and official records of Mass,
New Hampshire, Rhode Island. Conn., N. Y. , N. J., and from the records of
the War and Navy Departments in Washington D. C, Book was written in
