There is very little about this obok online; looks like both existing copies
are owned by Mormon organizations in Salt Lake City. I did not check the
Library of Congress.

So this book is based on the personal records (and notions) of a single
individual born in the 19th century. I'd say it's standard speculative
genealogy. He did not have teh records available to him that the author of
the Chapin genealogy found.
My attention was instantly drawn to all the other stuff by him on Bristol,
Rhode Island. Even on Bermuda privateers. I wonder who this man was?
Author was Howard Millar Chapin, b 1887, based on the records of Seth Chapin
of Mendon.
My most recent Chapin ancestor is Lucy Chapin, born 1768 in Chicopee,
Massachusetts, married Joseph Allen. Their son Amzi married Mary Sizer, a
recent descent of the notorious slave-trading family of Bristol. Somehow
all of her entire line of ancestry made it into a number of genealogies that
include my grandmother, including Orrin Allen's Allen genealogy. Why did
this man care about Bristol history and Bermuda privateers?
Now, that line is likely to have carried bipolar disorder, because people
with those genes marry selectively and have pretty much done so in my lines.
French. Indeed !

To All Inquiring Minds:
The Mormon Library has a book "The Family of Chapin in Europe."
Microfilm and Microfiche Order Card. Beginning # 0022325.
I hope this explains the French Connection.
