Genealogy and Biography of Ontario County, New York
Jeremiah, son of Samuel (3) and Anna (Horton) Chapin. He served as
lieutenant and captain in the revolutionary war, and when the birth of a
daughter was announced to him in camp, La Fayette asked the privilege of
sending the name of Orpha. He married (published) May 6, 1769, Caroline
Fowler, of Springfield.

,either MA or NY). She married Ira Smith and moved to Wayne or Seneca Co. NY
; then to Monroe Co. MI. They had ch: Ira Chapin Smith b. 1813 who moved to
Hillsdale Co. MI; and daughters Lydia and Laura(Norris w/son Ira Norris),
buried at Erie, Monroe Co. MI and they had son, Edwin Smith, b. 1830 Orange
Co. NY, who m. 1)Amelia Beardsley, 2)Mary E. Betz , 3) Libbie Haring in
Elkhart, IN.

My gr. grandmother Jane Chapin m. Ira Smith and had son Ira Chapin Smith b.
1813. They moved from Wayne co. NY to Lucas co OH, near Toledo when then
state line was being debated between MI and OH around 1833.. Then they went
to Monroe Co. MI. I do not know of the Chapins in Lucus Co. OH. Thank you.
