Moses Jewett Chapin
moses J chapin born and reared in New England, was in 1861 a resident of Sherman Texas,
working at the carpenter's trade. He enlisted as a volunteer in the 9th Texas
Infantry, and served to the close of the war. He was wounded slightly. After a residence in
Tennesee, where he married, he returned to Sherman and prepared for the pratice of law.He
prepared an abstract of land titles in Grayson County, accepted as a finality by members of
the bar. This work gave him opporetunities for gain which he steadfastly refushed, and
often gave advice without hope of fee or reward. Temperate, tolerant and charitable, kind
to everyone, true to his friends,in many respects a remarkable man. (parents are Moses
