GLADYS JEAN CHAPIN MARCH 5, 1931 - MAY 11, 2007 Gladys Chapin passed away
peacefully in her sleep at Memorial Medical Center, Modesto, CA after
a short illness. She was 76 years old.
She was born in Lodi, CA. She made her home in Stockton for over
50 years before moving with her daughter and their family to Oakdale.
She leaves behind a daughter, Susan Sargis of Oakdale, and a son,
David Chapin, of Stockton. She also leaves behind three grandsons who
were her joy, and brought her several years of happiness and laughter.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, Melvin J. Chapin in 1997,
her mother and father, and one brother.
She was a teacher with the Stockton Unified School District for over
35 years; the last several were as a vice principal. She retired in
the late 80's so that she and her husband could do some traveling.
Her favorite things were sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She was
also a fan of fishing, to which her husband introduced her to during
their courtship.
She was a member of the Dameron Auxiliary since 1992, and had served
one term as president of that auxiliary. She was also a lifetime member
of the Sorority Beta Sigma Phi, and had served occasionally as president
of that organization as well.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances/donations can be made through the
Dameron Hospital Auxiliary of Stockton. Please ask for Alma Smith,
Treasurer.
There will be no formal funeral arrangements, as it was her wish to have
her ashes scattered out to sea, as were her husband's, who was a
decorated Navy Seaman.
