Hi Linda: My line of the Chapins were all born in the USA. My grandfather was a Physician
on lived on Wards Island and worked on Ellis Island checking out the immigrants that came
through. The Chapins back then all had money, I'm not sure from what. My dad did
receive $25,000 on his 21st birthday inh 1896 (A whole lot of money back then) but by the
time I was born 36 years later, he was broke (He was an only child) and its been the same
ever since, inasmuch that I worked ordinary jobs all my life, and things with me &
Cindy live a simple life spending most of what we have on our 8 grandkids.
My great grandfather was the Rev. Edwin H. Chapin. If you punch in his name on the
internet, a whole lot of information about him will pop up. It appears he was quite well
known in the late 19th century.
Yes, the Chapins and others all lived long times at an age when the life expectancy was
but in the 30's.
I will be going to the local library soon, and see what I can find out about all the
people we've been e-mailing about.
Keep in touch. Montaqgue
