Ron,
What a tragic thing to have happen, especially just before Christmas.
I don't know specifically about Chad Chapin's ancestry, but all of the Chapins
that I have found in Luzerne County are descendants of John Chapin and Hannah Rockwood.
There are a number of Chapins buried in the New Columbus Cemetery.
Anna H. Chapin [1873-1956]. She was married to and divorced from my grandfather's
brother William Oscar Chapin. They had no children. She is buried with her parents.
Dyer L. Chapin [1821-1907] and his wife Amanda M. Fellows 1825-1907]. He was a son of
Samuel and Hannah Trescott Chapin and grandson of John and Hannah Rockwood Chapin.
The rest of the Chapin burials are from the family of Robert Warden aka Ward Chapin.
[1872-1945] This is the one Chapin that I have not been able to prove his ancestry.
Doris Yaple Geist who with her father Roland Yaple published "The Yaple Family in
America" states that "According to Mrs. Arthur Boston, a grandson of John and
Frances Yaple,
Ward Chapin, was born in 1867/8 to a Rose Yaple and Alfred Chapin, son of Dwyer L. Chapin
... Rose and Alfred never married, but Ward is enumerated with John Yaple in both the
1870 and 1880 Luzerne County census." This Rose Yaple has not been identified and the
child in question is called Chapin Yaple in 1870 and Ward Yaple in 1880. This child is
also four or five years older than Ward Chapin.
I think that Ward Chapin is likely Chad's ancestor. He was married twice, first to
Rose Bulford [1878-1897] by whom he had a daughter Nettie [1897-1994].
His second wife was Mary Anna Deutschlander [1883-1965]. They had six children, three
daughters and three sons.
The sons were:
Harvey [1905-1992] was married twice. No children.
Harold [1909-1980] was married. He may have had children.
Carl [1913-1997] was married and had two sons Roy and Allen.
Given Chad's residence, membership in the Town Hill United Methodist Church, and
burial in the New Columbus Cemetery, it is likely that he is a member of this family,
possibly
Harold's grandson.
