My GGGrandmother was a Chapin who was married to an O'Kelley and they lived outside of West Plains Mo, where still exists a Chapin Cemetary, I have just started doing work on this family line and know very little except that they had 8? children of their own and adopted 23 or 24 orphaned children of the Civil War. There are stories that this branch of Chapins came over on the mayflower, I believe in chains, as a political prisioner. I am delighted to find this family association so any help would be gratefully appreciated.

11th Generation Chapin
Good Morning All :
In looking at some old messages posted to the Chapin board, I came across
the messaging on the two subject CHAPIN Descendants. There is yet another
link to these two presidents which you may or may not know about.
Yes both of the boys are Chapins. Taft is also descended from Edward 1
Rawson, First Secretary of the MA Bay Colony. Not only is Taft a Rawson,
but Cleveland's children are all descendants of Edward 1 Rawson through
their mother Frances Folsom. Frances was descended from Edward 1 Rawson
through son William, and Taft through Rev. Grindall 2 Rawson.
One of Cleveland's daughters had a second marriage to a Rawson descendant,
and the child from that marriage has a double Rawson line.
There is a good chance that if you "scratch" a Taft from the
Mendon/Uxbridge, MA area you will have a Chapin involved. Same goes with
Rawson.
In my case, I was born in Springfield, MA. My great grandmother was Edna
Stanwood Chapin who married Edward Wright Herrick. My ggparents lived on
Chicopee Street in Willimansett, and my ggmother taught school in the
Chicopee Street Elementary School.
My gmother and her siblings all had their mother as a school teacher, and my
father and his siblings also had their gmother as a school teacher too.
Edna Stanwood (Chapin) Herrick died in 1929, the same day that my father
graduated from Chicopee High School.
While the Presidents Bush missed out on the Chapin line, they didn't escape
from the Herrick Line.
I am Chapin many times over, and when my parents married, I inherited the
Rawsons and the Tafts.
