Banns were called at both wife and husbands parish three consecutive sundays

Hi Michael: I wish I knew where the St. Leonard Shoreditch Chants
origninated, but I have been unable to connect them with any of the other
lines so far.
The earliest I have is John Chant, b. about 1731 - I don't know where. He
lived in St. Leonard Shoreditch and he married Mary Hunt in 1754. I've just
received the marriage license application dated 1754 for St. Leonard
Shoreditch, but I can't find the marriage on the IGI so don't have the
actual parish record for that (if you encounter it in your searching I'd be
grateful for any help there). John was a vintner and victualler in
Shoreditch until the late 1700s. He died in 1804 in Hackney.
John and Mary had a bunch of children (they are listed on IGI for St.
Leonard Shoreditch). I'm in the process of ordering the relevant parish
christening records at the LDS but it's slow going because of time
constraints. Not much information is included on the parish record in any
case, so I don't expect them to reveal anything new.
I have very little information about most of John & Mary's children. Their
youngest, Samuel, is my grandfather's maternal ancestor. I have quite a bit
of information for my grandfather's specific line from Samuel downward. The
progression is Samuel Chant b. Middlesex 1776, Samuel Chant b. Middlesex
1799, Samuel Chant b. 1832 Hutton Essex, and so on. We have discussed
Samuel's descendants on the list in the past. They lived primarily in
Middlesex, Essex and Sussex in the 19th century.
I'm still hoping to connect this line with one of the others, either in the
1700s or later, but no luck so far.
Regards, Jacqueline

I know this group of Chant's has been discussed a bit before.
Can anyone tell me how the St Leonards,Shoreditch, London Chants link to one
another
and are their origins known?
regards
Michael

Hi Michael: The date of John/Mary's marriage license was Aug 1, 1754. I
don't have the actual marriage record. Marriage by license was not uncommon
in this line. Not sure why. I think I read somewhere that some families
liked to marry by license because they considered it better to have a civil
as well as a church document.
Your birth details re Samuel Chant 1776 are correct. He married Susannah
Hawkins in 1798 as far as I know, but I don't have the marriage record. I
have the same information you do about their children, from the IGI. The
only one for which I have the baptism record is Samuel 1799. I am in the
process of ordering the films to confirm the rest.
Regards, Jacqueline
