Hi ... I just had another look at what I have, and I have this note:
The earliest recording of CHAUNT/CHANT family is a Parish Church entry of the marriage of
William CHAUNT and Alice WHITE in 1584. There are no records to show where William
CHAUNT, his elder sister Agnes or his younger brother Robert were born. Originally from
france, in ther Glove Making business, they fled from there during the Religious
persecutions to settle on the Isle of Man and in Somerset. They carried on with their
Glove Making business. Some are still listed as Glovers in the 1851 Census of Stoke sub
Hadon (Colin Judd May 02)......I also have William with siblings Agnus and Robert, and
father William (The Elder) Chaunt born about 1543 Odcombe and married abt 1546. His
parents William and Alice and 10 children, going back to Willliam Chaunte 1477, Wells,
Somerset. This information was not researched by me, but by other friends.
