Vera Kitson's book is entitled Mark Chant (1835-1915) and Louisa
Pattemore (1844-1931) and descendants. This family moved to Canada prior
to 1871. Vera lives in Winchester, Ontario Canada, KOC 2K0) at 446 May
St. I knew of her as her two books are available through the Mormon
(LDS) records. While we were in Canada, as I had her address, we stopped
at her house and I bought the book from her. We share the same
great-grandmother. She pulled out some pictures that told me that my
family that settled in NYState and her family had been in touch with each
other way back when. The earliest Chant she has is George, b. 1799, W.
Chinnock, Somerset to Ann Hallett. Their children were Ann b. 1829; Levi,
b. 1828; William b. 1831; John b. 1833; Mark b. 1835; David b. 1841`;
Isaiah b. 1832; Jane Ann b. 1832 and Elizabeth b. 1846; (she died 1849).
She got this record from the 1851 census of W. Chinnock . George and Ann
both b. West Chinnock. I have more information on the above children is
you want it. I am so excited that there is a Chant=L Rootsweb and have
just subscribed. Her book also traces John Hallett m. Elizabeth Haynes.
John of W. Chinnock and Elizabeth Haynes from Nether Compton, Dorset.
when we were in England last, we went to W. Chinnock. Vera had included a
picture of a house called Quarry Farm. We looked and looked; finally
someone said Quarry House; we found same; talked with the young man who
lived there and gave him copy of the picture. I know somewhere I have
information on the Chants who went to Isle of Man; Australia, etc. but I
cannot lay my hands on it at the moment. I also think somewhere I have
an address for David Chant who has done research. I stopped at the
Somerset office and looked over his material filed there but no
connection. Hopefully through this rootsweb we can make contact. Beryl

Seeking Chant family lines.
A David Chant spent 20 years researching the Chant's of
West Chinnock. I have seen a couple of pages out of a
book he has produced but he has proved most elusive in contacting.
Would
like to know more about Vera Kitson of Canada's Chant book info.
David had traced his family line back into the 1600's but I
noted a lot of the George Chant's and other lines listed
were not followed for their marriages. These missing in
action Chants may have ended up in other villiages in Somerset and
Dorset
etc.
Welcome Chant info from Purse Caundle,Henstridge,Milborne
Port, Sherborne, Melbury Osmond, Bradford Abbas, Beamster,
Yetminster,
Yeovil, Oborne, West Chinnock, Castleton,
Crewkerne etc
Interests in all Chant lines in Dorset and Somerset.
Especially my direct line back to 1790's Sherborne,
Dorset.
Believe all Chant family lines probably had one
ancestor
Known in Dorset circa 1500 but moved to Somerset 1600.
Possibly around West Chinnock.
Anyone got evidence otherwise?
