Janette,
There's a William CHANT born Henstridge 1825, I have a note that he was living 1851
with a Mary CHANT his wife in Purse Caudle, Dorset.
William's parents were: John CHANT (1799-?) & Martha ADLAM (1794-1840)
John's parents were: Benjamin CHANT (1770-1844) & Christian GUY (1771-1830)
Benjamin's parents were: Henry CHANT (1745-1820) & Elizabeth SIMES (1749-1842)
Henry's parents were: Benjamin CHANT (1686-?) & Martha ? (?-1781)
Benjamin's parents were: John CHANT (1655-?) & Maria RAWLES (?-?)
John's parents were: Gregory CHANT (1612-?) & Ursela CHEPMAN (?-?)
Gregory's parents were: Richard CHANT & Mary LLOYD or LODGE
Richard's parents were: William CHANT (?-1597) & Edith (?-1601)
John and Benjamin are both born Henstridge, the rest are Stowell, Somerset. Henry and
Elizabeth SIMES married in Henstridge. The Stowell PR's start around 1585 so
that's as far back as we can go (I paid resercher to check the Stowell and Henstridge
PR's and I now believe my family joins this tree). Around 1600 there are 5 CHANT lines
in Stowell which is a very small village or hamlet so it's likely they are all
related. One of the other Wiltshire / Hampshire lines plus one of the Oborne/ Sherborne
and Marnhull lines can also traced back to Stowell.
Andy CHANT.

Hello everyone,
I've been going back over past correspondence & rechecking. Back in January 2004
Sean Chant sent an email re the 1891 census for Blandford, Dorset.
Joseph Chant, Head aged 30, railway porter, born Milborne Port, Somerset & wife Eliza
aged 30 born Holwell, Dorset.
The query was who were Joseph's parents?
-------------------------
At 1881 census he was Ag Lab aged 20 working at Coal dealers
as follows.... Henry Hooper 70 born Templecombe, Somerset.
wife Hannah 78 born Horsington, Somerset were at a house at the Coal yard in Temple
Coombe, Somerset.
----------------------------
The query was has anyone found him on the 1901 census.
Well in my unmatched file for Milborne Port I've got that in 1901 he was a Railway
Brakesman at Twerton, Somerset.
The query was who were Joseph's parents.
I decided to look in places near Milborne Port for his birth & in my Henstridge
un-matched file I found a Joe 7 months old as at the 1861 census born Milborne Port,
Somerset.
Here's the family I have an un-matched sheet for.
William born c1826 Henstridge, Somerset
Mary (wife) born c1826 Henstridge, Somerset
& children Hannah born 1850, Henstridge, (glover in 1861)
Thomas born 1852 Milborne Port, John born c1854 Milborne Port,
Mary J. born c1859 Milborne Port & Joe 7 months old at 1861 census born Milborne
Port.
Does anyone know the parents of William Chant born c1826 Henstridge please ?
Regards,
Janette in Oz
