Hi Sean
Dont have Thomas Chant b 1777 as one of George and Mary's children.
Do you have a baptismal entry stating George and Mary were the parent's?
Was the Thomas b in 1777 the same Thomas Chant buried in 1777?
George Chant d 1789 is interesting but had thought might be from
a family nearby that moved to Sherborne. The presence of Samuel from Oborne
and Oniphorous in the Sherborne Weslyan records suggests like John Chant b
1840
from the Holwell, Hayden line that Chants from elsewhere visited or lived in
Sherborne
Parish.
It being a large market town in the region and the significance of the
Parish church
as somewhere people would come to marry should not be forgotten nor that
families that lived
in nearby villiages, hamlets, farms would have Sherborne as their Parish
Church but not live
in Sherborne itself.
If he is though in fact our George Chant that married Mary Rogers in 1765
this complicates matters
as to who was the George Chant that died in 1834 in his 50's?

Subject: [CHANT] Sherborne Chant's
Hello List
My 4x and 3x great grandfather was James Chant. James was born
around 1816
at Sherborne in Dorset, England.
He was the youngest child of George Chant and Elizabeth Noakes. James
married Mary Bunter in 1837
In 1839 George Chant was born in Sherborne, followed by William in
1841. In
1844 my 3x great grandfather Luke Chant was
born. followed by Grace in 1847. In 1848 James mother Elizabeth
died and
Mary's brothers were considering moving to Australia.
In 1849 Mary's younger brother William Bunter and his family left for
Australia soon to be followed by Mary and her husband
James Chant and their children. Mary's elder brother Richard Bunter
and his
family arriving late in 1849. The three families were to
reunite at Sutton Forest in the Southern Highlands region of NSW.
Mary's
elder brother Luke Bunter was still serving in the marines
but would later come out to Western Australia in the late 1850's.
The Chant's had travelled on the Ship called "The Sea" approaching
the cape
of good hope daughter Grace died. But Mary heavily pregnant
and maybe due to the shock of loosing her only daughter went into
labour and
gave birth to Anne Sea Chant days later.
Upon arrival in Sydney NSW the family
James and Mary Chant.of Sherborne
children George Chant 10
William Chant 7
Luke Chant 5 (my 3x great grandfather)
Anne Chant infant
Soon the first Australia born from this family was James b 1851
followed by Samuel in 1854, Elizabeth in 1856, Richard b 1858 (my
2x great
grandfather)
lastly Robert Chant b 1862
1 George Chant b1839 would later marry Eliza Izard daughter of
Eleanor
Izard.
by coincedence the Izard Family were neighbours of my Freebody etc
ancestors
from Windsor New South Wales.
1790 2nd Fleeter Simon Freebody (distant cousin of US president George
Washington a Freebody descendant),
1790 2nd Fleeter Daniel Hanchard, 1791 3rd Fleeter Issac Cornwall
and their
families whose records have some
details come up regards the Izard family. (The first of many
interconnections in the families)
2 William Chant b 1841 married Catherine McDonald
3 Luke Chant b 1844 married Margaret Mott (sister of Rosetta) 3x great
grandparents
4 Anne Chant b 1849 married Isaac Manns (brother of Thomas)
5 James Chant b 1851 married Emily Bunter (daughter of uncle
William Bunter)
6 Samuel Chant b 1854 married Rosetta Mott (sister of Margaret)
7 Elizabeth Chant b 1856 married Thomas Manns (brother of Issac)
8 Richard Chant b 1858 married 1st Grace Bunter (daughter of uncle
William
Bunter)
2nd Margaret Chant
(daughter
of elder brother Luke Chant)
As you can imagine a sensitive issue amongst descendants
9 Robert Chant b 1862 married Martha Mudford daughter of William
Mudford and
Eliza Ford of West Chinnock
Martha Mudford was the great grandaughter of Mary Chant b 1751 West
Chinnock a grandaughter of Robert
Chant b 1700 as per Janette's ancestoral tree.
Martha Chant's sister Eliza Mudford married James Chant b 1864
the eldest
child of George Chant and Eliza Izard.
Marha Chant's sister Mary Ann Mudford married William Bunter
brother of
Grace Bunter who married Richard Chant
my 2x great grandfather.
Already the intercconections messy and there are many many more such
interconnections between my lines
for the next generation.
If anyone has contact with descendants or additional details I
would welcome
details.
regards
Michael
