Hello David
That is fantastic. I would love to hear more on each generation.
Obviously Hugh Chant is where you'd like to progress. As many members
researching
for sometime are well aware, the further back we get away from Civil
registration
and census records, which we can cross check against church records, the
harder it
is to be certain we are following the right branch of a Chant line.
That said it's even harder to track the movements when families moved around
from
place to place either because of relations on the wife's side (child birth
and
family links issues) or in search of work or moved from the estate of a
employer
in one area to a estate their employer had in another area. In the past on
list
unusual occupations such as Mole Catcher have helped with some Chant lines
moving
around a lot to be tracked.
At present I think Andy Chant is the authority on these Wiltshire lines
but I could be wrong on that. Maybe that's now yourself. Scott Bougher a
regular
poster in the past was also heavily researching the East Tytherley Chant's.
Allan Cresswell was heavily researching the Wiltshire side of things.
Allan is still around on the DPS list of which I am also a member.
Do you know what Hugh Chant did for work? can you list the 3 children's
details
you have I gather they are church baptisms?
Can I ask what sources you have looked into for Hugh so far?
To date the three Chant lines of Wiltshire have not been linked to
Dorset/Somerset lines
with any certainty though some suggestions of ancestry to Somerton Chant's
1538+
have been made.
