Hello Michael,
My records state that Thomas bap 1777 was the son of George and Mary,
there was a Thomas buried Sherborne only 4 days later recorded as an
infant.
The George who died 1834 aged 54 must be the son of George and Mary.

Hi Sean
Dont have Thomas Chant b 1777 as one of George and Mary's children.
Do you have a baptismal entry stating George and Mary were the
parent's?
Was the Thomas b in 1777 the same Thomas Chant buried in 1777?
George Chant d 1789 is interesting but had thought might be from
a family nearby that moved to Sherborne. The presence of Samuel
from Oborne
and Oniphorous in the Sherborne Weslyan records suggests like John
Chant b
1840
from the Holwell, Hayden line that Chants from elsewhere visited or
lived in
Sherborne
Parish.
It being a large market town in the region and the significance of the
Parish church
as somewhere people would come to marry should not be forgotten nor
that
families that lived
in nearby villiages, hamlets, farms would have Sherborne as their
Parish
Church but not live
in Sherborne itself.
If he is though in fact our George Chant that married Mary Rogers
in 1765
this complicates matters
as to who was the George Chant that died in 1834 in his 50's?
regards
