We have had a few new members join in the last few
weeks. I would like to welcome you to our list.
It would be helpful if our new members posted their interests, details of
their lines as they have them
to date. Others on the list can then try to link
up or may hold that vital clue you have been looking
for. Membership is roughly 50 now with a few coming
and going due to various things like holidays,
changing ISP's, computer problems, illness etc.
For example we have about 7 members off list at the
moment on holiday who intend to return after their
break. They may well have found new and interesting information as some of
these trips are to the
UK to search through the Archives available.
One parish being checked against info provided is
the Somerset original Chant's of Stoke sub Hamden.
It is hoped some of the broken lines nearby will make
sense with any new info found. Database on them
now at 6000 including Murley, Mudford, Hallett and
Patten who have mulitple interconnects with the
Chant's. Cousins were very close in the area.
Have Mudford to 1668 and soon back to the 1500's
from a Mudford researcher.
Early Dorset Chant Lines in Fordington (probably
Stoke branch by James b 1587) Sherborne 1729,
Piddletown 1780's most likely connect to those
from Somerset.
Descendant lines of Robert m 1602 also not yet
sorted out. These are the lines that need to be
followed so the broken lines can be sorted out.
The Wiltshire Chant's from mid 1500's appears to
be at present a seperate line. But who know's. It
could link back to brothers earlier back for
Somerset and Wiltshire. Maybe those with Wiltshire
lines could share how they are going with connecting
to fellow Wiltshire Chant researchers. Same goes for
those with Hampshire lines.
The Lincolnshire group are seperate and most likely independant line of
Chant's and Hampshire is probably
another line related either to Wiltshire or Somerset
Chant familes.
Some Puzzles have appeared which require further thought.
For Somerset and Dorset. Names/dates/places overlap partly are similar but
some details dont match. It may be a case
of unconfirmed info being used from a incorrect secondary source.
Primary sources are Parish records 1529-1850's, Census
records 1841,51,61,71,91. Uk and overseas BDM's 1837+
but be mindful of overseas records as they may not be
totally accurate and depend on who was the informant.
I have come across a lot of those from overseas which had incorrect details
about their English origins
Secondary sources are Family bibles, Birthday Books
and a persons recollections as dates and details
may have been put in many years after the event.
Details from oral history may be heresay - they
heard it from someone else and is not info they knew firsthand by witnessing
it. Therefore should be
treated with caution. It could be accurate, but it
might not be. Try to confirm such info against primary sources where
possible.
