My apologies for any confusion caused with yesterday's message regarding
William and Elizabeth in Odcombe. Have now found reference (24 Aug 2002
v2#103) regarding Gordon Beavington's transcription of the Stoke sub Hamdon
1851 census and Widowed Elizabeth and family mentioned by Janette. Does
anyone have the 1841 entry for this particular family or the death
certificate to give a better idea of the deceased Williams age?
In the same posting it is mentioned that this is the William who was
christened in Martock 1795 and married Elizabeth Male (census states born
Barrington) - William died prior to 1851 census leaving Elizabeth with five
children who then migrated to South Australia.
Is it possible for anyone to clarify the obviously two different Williams (I
have the above William being born 1802 Stoke Sub Hamdon to James and Ann):
As I have the William in Odcombe as the brother of Onesiphorus - both
baptised in Martock - sons of Robert and Susan (Kellaway). William dies, as
I said in 1859 and Elizabeth and unmarried daughter Mary Ann are both still
in Odcombe in 1881.
Although the baptisms in Bower Hinton chapel Martock of Robert and Susans
children state birthplace as Stoke sub Hamdon, Onesiphorus and William
always list their birthplace as Odcombe. Robert, Susan, Joseph, William and
Onesiphorus are all buried in Odcombe. In 1851 William and Elizabeth have
Sarah Kingwell living with them , presumably the same Sarah Kingwell who has
Joseph and Betsy (children of Onesiphorus) with her in Stoke sub Hamdon in
1841.
