Hi Sherron,
From the Ellis Island Site she arrived with the two boys and Husband Thomas
Chant, who was the same age as she was and was a railwayman, bound for their
home in Carrico, New Mexico. Thomas had been to Texas previously, but I can't
find anything about that trip.
They came from Southampton on board the 'Philadelphia' arriving 25th
September 1909.
All four of them were marked 'Non Immigrant Alien' and the next of kin/friend
in the old country was a Mr Law of Pokesdown in Dorset. (Haven't I seen
something similar to this somewhere recently? I remember someone saying Pokesdown
is in Dorset!)
Only speculation but he could be one of Andy's: this is the only 22 year old
Thomas I found in the 1901 census:
12833396 527404 Chant Thomas 22 Wilts Whiteparish Southampton
Eastleigh Coachmaker Labourer 1066/042
The occupation is similar although could refer to road transport.
Sean, is there any clue on the other censuses to which you have access,
please?
Andy, has this chap and possibly his young family gone missing from
Whiteparish do you know, please? Possibly from this 1881 census family (as he is the
only 2 year old Whiteparish Tom in that census)
