Hello John,
I do vaguely recall your message on Erland. Anyhow you will be
interested to know, if you don't already that Alfred Chant, eldest son
of Henry of Bridgwater had a son call Erland. He is listed on the 1891
census with his parents at Bridgwater, aged 8 months old.
On the 1901 census Erland Jnr looks to be wrongly transcribed as Edward
Chant, aged 10. I was surprised to see that his father Alfred Chant, now
aged 37 yrs has a job as an " assistant inspector of nuisance" . Does
anyone have any idea what that entailed ?
Just refresh my memory John what became of Erland Snr ?
So which members of the family went to the USA ?
Do we have any Canadian contacts from Ernest's line ?
Regards,
Sean

Hi Sean,
Thanks for taking this family on further. It has been on list before
when I
was asking people about Erland CHANT (as I would, of course, since I
like to
pick on unusual names).
Joseph Chant 1809 Stoke-sub-Hamdon
married 23.9.1834
Maria CRIDDLE 1813 Bridgwater
begat
Erland, Elizabeth, Henry, Thomas and Robert.
Thomas, you may remember, married the suffragette and religious speaker,
Laura Ormiston DIBBIN (said to be a friend of George Bernard SHAW). The
Ellis
Island web site shows trips to the U.S.A.
Cheers,
John
