Dear fellow Chant researchers
Several messages ago someone asked if there were any Chants in London.
It would depend on what you consider London - London has grown and taken
over what used to be parts of Kent on the southern side of the river Thames.
My gg grandfather Samuel wife Emma and two children moved from Odcombe (that
seems to be the origins of my Chants back to at least the latter half of the
1700's)in Somerset to Sydenham Kent in 1850 - their son Gilbert married and
had 11 eleven children in Sydenham - my father was born in Forest Hill
London and Sydenham is now part of London. Samuels elder brother, Charles
appears to have moved to London prior to Samuels arrival in Kent - I did
find him as a widower on the 1881 census and I know he had at least one
child named Charles - anyway my ancestors would have certainly contributed
to any Chants in the London area.
