Hi John
On the 1891 census it shows Sampson William CHANT age 22 living with his
mother Mary age 64 widow and his wife Emily age 24 at Larkhill Lane, Yeovil,
Somerset. His occupation is rural postman.
I looked for Mary on the 1881 census and found this:-
Living at Larkhill Cottage, Yeovil, Somerset.
Sampson CHANT Husband (head) 55 born Odcombe, Somerset. Farm labourer
Marey CHANT Wife 52 born Bradford Abbas, Dorset
Joseph CHANT son 17 born Yeovil Marsh, Somerset. Labourer
Frederick CHANT son 14 born Yeovil Marsh, Somerset. Scholar
William CHANT son 11 born Yeovil Marsh, Somerset. Scholar
Charles CHANT son 9 born Yeovil Marsh, Somerset, Scholar
Edwin CHANT son 4 born Yeovil Marsh, Scholar
Selina CHANT daughter 27 born Yeovil, Somerset. Glover
Elizabeth CHANT daughter 19 born Yeovil, Somerset. Glover
Mark NIGHT lodger 20
It looks as if William is Sampson William. Maybe he was known as William to
avoid confusing him with his father.
Regards
Helen
