Hello Listers....especially Beryl,
James Chant born 1816 at Sherborne, youngest child of George Chant and
Elizabeth Noake. They were married 1799 at Sherborne. George was buried
31st Dec 1834 aged 54 yrs old at Sherborne and Elizabeth ded 25th March
1848 at Almshouses, Sherborne aged 76 yrs old.
As you James married Mary Bunter: 1819-1891 during 1837 at Sherborne.
They migrated 1849 to NSW. They departed with four children; George
James: 1839-1908; William: 1841-1911; Luke Bunter: 1844-1911 and Grace:
1846-1849. The latter died on the voyage, probably in the Indian ocean,
a few days earlier Mary had given birth to Anne Sea Chant: 1849-1918.
They settled in the Southern Highlands of NSW. Other children were:
James Bunter: 1851-1909; Samuel Bunter: 1854-1915; Elizabeth: 1856-1896;
Richard: 1858-1916 and Robert Hyle: 1862-1940. As you know Michael
Cheeseman is descended from both Luke and Richard Chant. My wife, Linda
Chant is descended from George James Chant.
James died at Germanton, present day Holbrook. Mary died at Black Range
nr Albury. George james Chant's family remained in the Mittagong/Bowral
district....he had 12 children, 11 survived to adulthood. I have spen
most of research on this branch, although I have also carried out a
great deal on the others, especially Samuel; William and James Bunter. I
have met up with a great many descendents, the vast majority of whom
have been tremendous. The idea is to publish a book on all descendents,
however as the project has blown out of all proportion I will probably
now publish in separate volumes. George James's brach alone will fill a
500 pg book....easily.
Hope that has answered some questions Beryl.
Regards,
Sean
