Greetings listers
It is preferable that Chant researchers correspond on the Chant-L email list
as message boards are rather clumsy.
Also Board messages come to the Chant-L email list anyway
via a gateway. It makes replying to messages easier if
Chant researchers are on the Chant-L list and also makes
them aware of the other Chant researchers. You never know when a newbie may
join in with a posting of info they have that does not relate to their line
but can help another member.
Joyce MacFarlane who has descendant Emma Chant/ Redwood connection has been
corresponding with me since the early 1990's via letter. Only a week or so
ago I became aware
she had email.
Recently I sent her info that indicates her ancestor
was from Odcombe Somerset. I have just invited her to
join the list. Richard Philips of the Lambeth Chants
will also be invited to join. Slowly but surely the
missing branches are coming together.
It seems that Rita Nye who has the Oborne, Dorset Chant connection from 1760
via Benjamin Chant may have a link
to New York Chants based on an old photo. One or two
branches of the Oborne Chants moved to Sherborne during
the 1850's/60's and may have then moved on to New York?
Details are rather sketchy at present to connect the New
York Chant's to either Sherborne or Oborne in Dorset.
If you know of other Chant researchers let them know about the list. The
more the merrier. John Howarth and Les Pratt
of New Zealand have to date decided not to join. Both are researching
connections to the Sherborne Chants via William Chant b 1816 son of William
and Anna.
William Chant who married Anna is a brother of my George
Chant who married Elizabeth from whom I descend from their son James Chant b
1816. I am in regular contact with John
Howarth whose wife is a Chant cousin of mine.

Michael Cheeseman
