Hello Michael,
I wonder what your thoughts are on these two ? They were probably the
parents of the Charles bap 1839 details posted earlier today. Based on
the fact that Samuel was 49 in 1851, he probably was not the brother of
"our" James Chant. You will recall there is a burial entry for a Samuel
Chant aged 27 yrs old in 1835 at Sherborne, who might the brother I
speak of. So who is the Samuel who married Mary Morris ? The 1851 census
return indicates that he was born at Sherborne. He does not appear on
the 1871 census, presumably he did between 1851 and 1871. Indeed there
are a couple of Samuel Chant deaths at Sherborne during the 1850's:
Jun 1856: Chant Samuel Sherborne 5a 248
Deaths Dec 1858: Chant Samuel Sherborne5a 256
Any of these could be him I suppose, there is no indication of age at
this point in the civil registration.
Do you have a baptismal record for a Samuel Chant at the turn of the
18th/19th century for the district ?
Regards,
Sean
