After looking at the 1851 census I came across a Joseph Chant born 1825
Stoke, Somerset with wife Elizabeth and daughter Jane and Martha. I couldn't find
these on the 1861 census. So did they migrate to the States?
Hi Sean,
Can't do anything to Joseph & Elizabeth (Gully) to take them to America.
This is another family where tragedy struck. Daughter Jane was buried
17-5-1851 and a week later, on the 24th, her elder sister, Martha.
The Stoke PRs show a Frederic baptised to a Joseph & Elizabeth (this seems
to be the only pair in the village) on 5-9-1852 (born 16-5-1852).
Like you, I haven't found the family in later censuses so it may be your
people on the 1900 & 1910 censuses in Burlington County, even if not James's
parents. Any sign of a Fred? I can't find a death that looks like him in the
British records I have available.
Cheers,
John
Hi Cousin Beryl,
I have a note that you looked at this family a long time ago. Did you find
out any more, please?
Thanks,
John
Hi Cousin Prue,
This Joseph 1825 is Giles's elder brother. Have you looked at the family at
all please? Be interesting if Sean has found a US connection for you, even if
it isn't tied to the James he was looking at originally.
Thanks,
John
