Michael, I did not give any infomation about place of marriage in the
first message because I did not have it,but now I do. I told you my
Grandmothers name was Mary Ellen Blake, apparently she was an orphan, and
was in care in a chidrens home on Sison Common in Warmley, my
Grandfather met her before she was old enough to leave this place,at the
age of twenty-one she was allowed to marry him and they were married
from this childrens home in Warmley. My Grandfather was apparently six
or seven years older than her. He had previously been married, first
wifes name unknown, they had one daughter Kate, they were married for a
few years, she apparently commited suicide in an area of Bristol called
Fishponds. He was left a widower with this child. If I remember rightly
my Grandmother died in 1958 in Bristol. Also I have the place of birth
for my Grandfather,he was born in Weymouth,Ido not have an address
neither do Iyet know who my Great-Grandparents were. The date of his
birth is more or less correct not confirmed. He did however serve in the
Merchant Navy for a time. Grandma died at the age of 67yrs and I have to
say,one of the saddest days of my life,Iwas 13yrs old and was not
allowed to go to her funeral. This information has come from one of
their daughters who is now 78yrs old. Apparently the stories about the
family originating from Portland could be just that, stories. so just to
cap, Joseph Chant and Mary Ellen Blake, place of marriage Sison Common
Warmley Bristol. Hope this may start to get me somewhere.
Regards Christine.
