Hello everyone
Michael has suggested I introduce myself, being the 'new kid on the block' so to
speak. Everyone, (bar my mother!) calls me Chris and I've been married to David for 36
years tomorrow. We live in Clanfield Hampshire UK and I'm semi-retired ( 2 days a week
book-keeping for a friend) having worked in high street banking 1960-1996.
Interest in family history began 18 months ago, but only recently started looking at my
maternal side. Grandmother Alice Eliza CHANT (m David Charles SPENCER) was born in
Newhaven Sussex 21 May 1889 but I now know her father Harry CHANT came from Winchester,
here in Hampshire. She was one of 13 surviving children so there's plenty to research.
Thank you to Scott in Ohio for sending his Hampshire line. No obvious tie-in but early
days, eh? As yet not proven, but I believe Harry CHANT's father may have been Henry
CHANT b. c1828 (Second Engineer on the South Western Railway) and shown as coming from
Hampshire in the 1881 Census, and then also residing in Littlehampton Sussex.
I will be visiting the Record Office, Winchester shortly and will post any firm
developments.
Regards to all Chris Judd (nee Childs)
