Hello: In a similar vein - does anyone know whether there is a list
anywhere
of the people buried in the Hove, Sussex cemetery? Or even a list of
all
the 19th & early 20th century cemeteries in Hove and Brighton?

Hello Listers,
I came across this on the net, a wonderful photo of
"Harry Chant with his Railway Quay steam crane, probably in the 1880s.
Stand at Bickerstaff's fish shop on the west bank and look across the
harbour at the opposite quay and that is where this antique crane would
have been. It is a fixture, but notice how it is conveniently positioned
between the railway wagon and the ship moored alongside."
This begs the question of course where are the Sussex researchers out
there ? As most of you will know there was a significant 19th and 20th
century CHANT presence in Sussex. Perhaps some time should be spent on
this branch. John you will recall that the other day we had a birth in
Chichester when looking at John Chant born at Bagshot, Surrey. His
mother was born there, with the possibility that his father was too.
When I get a chance I will have a look for a Harry the steam crane
driver !
Regards,
Sean
