Hello Listers,
I came across an interesting entry on the 1920 US census at
Kingman, Arizona:
William J Chant aged 48 born Newfoundland (father born Newfoundland)
working as a 'mining blacksmith"
Jennie Chant, wife aged 25 born Arizona
Louise Chant, daughter aged 5 born Arizona
George Chant, son aged 3 born Arizona
Genivieve Chant, daughter aged 1 yr and 6 months.
Presumably William married in Arizona, to a wife half his age. I wonder
if anyone can place William in the "Newfoundland" scheme of things.
From Newfoundland to Arizona is about as far as you can go,
geographically, culturally and climatically in North America !
Regards,
Sean

Hello Listers,
A couple of questions/queries that someone might be able to help me
with.
After looking at old postings I wonder if the parentage of Robert Chant
bap Bower Hinton, Martock 1823 was ever cleared up. I gather there was
some dispute if he was the son of Onesiphorous Chant:1796-1875. Was
this ever cleared up ? This would be the Robert Chant who married
Elizabeth Boyd who migrated to Newfoundland. My curiousity was pricked
after discussing Christopher Chant who migrated to Canada in the
1840's, as Onesiphorous was his brother ? In which case there are at
least two branches of the family in Canada have a direct link.
I did notice Philip Chant does not have a Robert Chant under
Onesipherous on his webpage> His list of children being:
Sarah Kellaway Chant
Betsy Kingwell Chant
Joseph Chant
Oliver Chant
John Kingwell Chant
Mary Kingwell Chant.
Does this look right ?
Regards,
Sean
