Hi Michael
Like you, as I mentioned earlier, I did look for ten years after their
marriage and like you found no sign of any children.
Do you know when his wife Bessie died, is there any chance that she may have
died and he remarried and then had children? (Just a thought).
The only other suggestion I have is to order his Death certificate - I
nearly always find that the Informant is a family member and if you are
lucky perhaps it would be the case on this particular one.
Christine

Thanks Christine
I'm determined to find English living relatives and it's likely with info
from a newspaper "in memorium" notices will assist determine if he had
children or contact with other family. No births located 1915-1926 BDM's
makes me think maybe they didn't have children though I was told they had
descendants by someone, which now seems odd.
Reginald Frank Chant b 1889 son of Wilfred and Sarah Chant of Sherborne
married Bessie Childs in 1915. Reginald's father Wilfred died in Poole in
1948
and Reginald in 1971. Reginald's brother Wilfred Harold Chant has been
discussed before went to the US in 1909 via Ellis Island.
regards
Michael

Hallo Michael
I dont necessarily agree, with your Dorset contact although that may be the
case in recent times (and maybe others would feel the same). I have several
English Death notices from both my and my husbands' family members and they
were not wealthy people. People often didnt place notices in the big
Dailies but in the local weekly newspapers.
Also, sometimes, depending on the persons occupation or community
involvement or cause of death etc, the local paper did a bit of a write up
because they are always looking for local news. I would have thought if you
really wanted to know what happened to Reginald it would be worth looking
further into that.
Regards
Christine
Seems I'm out of luck again re Reginald'death entry in a local newpaper of
the Funeral or family placed death notices. A experience Dorset researcher
and former Dorset list admin informs me the Dorset and UK papers newspapers
generally are not much help with death notices. They are, it seems, rare
because of the expensive. So few people place them in the paper unlike here
in Australia where they are very common and often have 10-20 condolence
entries
per deceased person in the daily's over a few days.
regards
Michael

Michael,
From what I've read about the 1911 Census, it's in a very sorry state with
none of the ennumerators books surviving, many of the original sheets
missing and many eaten up with damp or infested!

Ah well that means I need to find
a living relative that knows what was done with his remains. Here in
Australia
those details are often on the death certificate but UK cert's are rather
sparce on info.
I know cousin Reginald married Bessie Childs about 1915 but have no idea
what
children if any he may have had. Parents names are not indexed with their
childs
birth from that period are they?
Even when the 1911 census is released in 2012 it would not help much. How
can I find
out more on Reginald. Any suggestions welcome.

Michael

Michael / Christine,
Just a bit more for you. My grandfather on my mothers side has his ashes
scattered on the Chilterns near Tring in Hertfordshire where he used to go
with his grandparents as a boy. He was born in Paddington, London and died
in Dover Kent. My father died in Dover too.

I agree with Andys' comments - the same applies to my Father whose ashes

Michael,
I would guess the majority of people would be cremated - their ashes may
be buried in a plot in a local church to their home or where they were
born or baptised then again anywhere they liked to go. My own fathers
ashes (d.1986) were scattered on the Downs above Eastbourne Sussex and not
near any church.
Andy.
