Hello Michael and all CHANT researchers,
Just one other item I found on my visit to the SRO last week.
On the 1871 census for Taunton St James, whilst I was looking for my WILLIAM and JANE
CHANT, I found the following -
WILLIAM age 30 Stone mason b. Stoke under Ham & wife LUCY CHANT age 26 b. Taunton
living in King Street, Taunton St James. Their 2 children William age 4 b. Bristol and
Emma age 2 b. Bristol match the ages of the 2 children with widowed Jane Chant and her
'3' children (my Albert ? I think) in the 1881 census.
If this is my William and '' Lucy Jane'' then my William could have come
from the Stoke under Ham CHANT's and he would have been born about 1840, but died
before 1881.
I did search the burial registers for Taunton St James and found 2 burial's of
William's, one was only 6 months old, the son of Alfred and Emma who died 1876. The
other was William CHANT from King Street, age 41 years who was buried 19 December 1877,
making his birth year about 1836. So this looks like Jane/Lucy's husband, but the
years/ages do not quite match up.
What do you have on the CHANT's from Stoke under Ham, is there a William born between
these years.
Perhaps when I return to the SRO later this year, I will have to scour the Stoke under Ham
PR's instead of West Chinnock ????????
However, if anyone out there can claim this family as theirs, then please let me know, so
I can eliminate them from my enquiries.
Kind Regards
