Hello Janette,
Thanks for that. When we couldn't connect the Canadian service man last year
it still looked as if he ought to be in this line. Strange that the BARRETT he
was named for was his mother and not his great grandmother. I wonder if the
two ladies were related?
Llewellyn John CHANT died age 40 in South Molton, March 1897 quarter. In the
1881 census he is unmarried, a watchmaker living in Liskeard, Cornwall.
Harry appears to be Henry Melton CHANT born about March 1864 South Molton. He
died in the St Thomas region of Devon about June 1900. Sean, can you see if
he had any family please in 1891?
In 1885 Margaretta Melton CHANT marries either William MOORE or John
WILLIAMS: Sean can you tell please which it is from the 1891 census? I can't from the
1901. If her husband died and she remarried there is a Margaretta Bligh aged
42 born South Molton in the Battersea 1901 census: this may be a red herring.
This must be another daughter as Margaretta CHANT is shown as dying aged 83
about June 1899.
Robert CHANT dies about March 1901 aged 91 in South Molton.
There is a Lewis Barrett CHANT who dies aged 48 in South Molton about
December 1898. This has to be Louey who probably appeared on censuses with his baby
name (which had stuck). The age here is a few years out based on the census.
I can't find an Ellen who fits, married or not.
Cheers,
John
