Hello Listers,
A long standing question mark may have finally been erased with the
pleasant discovery of Samuel Rogers Chant baptised on the 9th July 1808
at Sherborne, son of William and Hannah Chant. I know that many
researchers had reasonable doubts that William was the son of George
Chant and wife Mary Rogers. Well Samuel's middle name would appear to
have answered that once and for all. It also answers the mystery of a
largish gap between Sally born 1803 and Noah born 1811.
What became of Samuel Rogers Chant ? Perhaps it is the same Samuel Chant
who was buried at Sherborne on the 21st March 1835 aged 27 years old.
The ages fit quite well. This might mean then that the Samuel Chant who
married Mary Morris on the 12th July 1829 was the son of George Chant
and Elizabeth Noakes baptised on the 10th Oct 1807 at Sherborne. Of
course given the close proximity of ages either might have buried in
1835 and either could have married Mary Morris.
Anyone with any thoughts on the above would be welcome. Anyone with any
further information on William and Hannah's line would also be welcome.
Regards,
Sean
