Hello cousin John
Nice to see your still researching The NZ branches
of the Sherborne Chants. Of course Beryl's line is the
West Chinnock Chant''s of Somerset and not connected
to our Chant's. Had contact with the Bosselmann line
a while back but computer corruption in 04/05 meant I
lost much of my correspondence from that period and hence
email contact addresses.
Have fairly well established most Chant researchers lines
and where they fit into the 16 unconnected branches
of Dorset and Somerset. David Chant cousin of John Chant
of West Chinnock lines started the WS line reseach in
1952. As I understand it John has most of David's notes
of which David sent me a little in the 1980's and 90's.
J.O. Chant did the South Australian Branches of the West Chinnock lines in the 1970's.
West Chinnock line starts 1700 confirmed.
David Chant wrote to me in the 90's stating it was
fruitless to try and link up the Chant lines from
the two counties as early pre 1700 records are too
patchy. There were hundreds of unconnected lines
when I started researching and in the 90's managed
to connect most Chant's in the records and descendant researchers in 16 major family
lines. The earliest CHant record I have is for 1426 AD but proving how all the families
derive from that person if they do is a major undertaking if any records still do exit to
prove a link.
email contact is still: forever_fossicking(a)bigpond.com
Well, Happy Easter Cous.
regards
Michael
