Hello Listers
I ran into trouble with my John Chant who married Mary Davis in Puncknowle 22
May 1786 and filed a Settlement exam in 1800 in Piddletown, Dorset. The exam
said John was the son of John Senior. Furthermore, John the younger was
allegedly born in Brimpton (Brympton/Brampton?), Somerset. One of the two's
(Jr. or Sr, I'm not sure which) legal parish was Odcombe. In any event, the
overseers of Odcombe granted money to be paid to John, Jr.
Junior should have been born approximately 1767. I checked the Parish Records
for Brimpton, Somerset Co... (LDS Film No. 1526441) and was disappointed to
find very few records and none I was interested in. There are Bishop
Transcripts available, but I haven't received them yet. (There was only one
Chant possibly of interest to someone else: Libby daughter of Susanna and
John Chunt Born 19 Dec 1811 Bapt 5 Jan 1812. ) I also checked the Odcombe
records (Film 1526381) and found one John Chant who married Margaret Fuller 6
May 1758 and no children listed until William in 1771 although I have reason
to believe there were more and, possibly one Robert). Can anyone tell me
more about this couple and if this could be my John Senior?
Thanks in advance
