Hello Gwyneth
I have been browsing archives and saw your message to Michael Cheeseman from
2.7.2000.
If you haven't got anything yet on your Samuel Ernest Chant, I have been
quoted the following, which I understand to originate from a Mrs Carol Chant.
Samuel Chant 6.1.1862 South Petherton married 5.6.1882 Selina Walters
begat
Samuel Ernest Chant 25.2.1890 married Daisy Skinner
begat
Albert Ernest Chant 1.1.1927 married 9.7.1949 Margaret Priddle
Have you got any further with the others since your posting please? This was:
1 Chant ( ? )
.... 2 Chant Samuel Ernest (o Circa ?/?/1899 in Lambrook or Martock, Somerset
- )
...... x Skinner Daisy Maud ( - )
........ 3 Chant Doug (o 16/11/1937 in Taunton, Somerset - )
.......... x Bryant Kathleen Pamela (o 19/6/1937 in North Curry, Somerset - )
........ 3 Chant Robert ( - )
........ 3 Chant Jack ( - )
........ 3 Chant Ernest ( - )
.......... x Joyce ( - )
........ 3 Chant Lena ( - )
........ 3 Chant Dorothy ( - )
.... 2 Chant George ( - )
.... 2 Chant Harold ( - )
.... 2 Chant (female?)
.... 2 Chant (female?)
.... 2 Chant (female?)
If your Samuel was born 1890 and not 1899 this could be the family in the
1901 census with Samuel Ernest being shown as Ernest and saying that Selina
had passed away (as the only Selina Chant I could find wasn't the one above).
The most likely candidate from the 1881 census is Selina Walters 1860
Sevington**, Somerset as she was a servant living in South Petherton.
