DEEDS OF WATER STREET, MARTOCK A/BEH2 1846-1890 Deeds of a house, shop and
bakehouse in Water Street, Martock, and a plot of land adjoining on which a
cottage formerly stood, tithe no. 1795.The house, tithe no. 1794, was sold
by the representatives of Samuel Palmer of Martock, baker, decd, to William
Lock of Martock in 1852. He mortgaged it in the same year to the Langport
and Mid Somerset Benefit Building Society and took out further mortgages in
1855 and 1857. In 1857 he sold the property to Eliza Ann Dight of Martock,
spinster.The following year Eliza purchased from Honor Burford of Martock,
widow, her children and mortgagees, part of the neighbouring house and in
1867 she purchased the remainder. In 1869 Eliza's brother, Roger Thomas
Dight, sold the two properties to William Vigar of Martock who mortgaged
them to Richard Westcott Martyn. In 1875 William's widow, Ann, took out a
further mortgage and sold to Thomas Best of Martock in 1879. The mortgages
were transferred by Best to Charles Philp in 1879. In 1890 the property was
sold by Robert Henry Applin of Glastonbury to William Harris; this deed
recites one of 1889 which is missing.The bundle also contains the sale of
two cottages on the north west side of West Street, on land enclosed from
the waste, in Stoke sub Hamdon, by William Taylor, late of Stoke now of
Taunton, to THOMAS NAISH CHANT of Stoke, 1860. (1 bundle)
