Michael,
Thanks. I was told that the BT's were also missing but I've E-mailed a
different researcher tonight that's found items at the Trowbridge Record
Office (for Wiltshire)which weren't supposed to be there! Some of the
Homington PR's are missing but there's some transcibed lines by a Victorian
Curate. Just to confuse things further some of the baptisms are in the
burials book where the original pages from this period do survive!
Andy.

Hello Andy
Have you Checked the Homington Bishops Transcripts
for those periods where there are gaps to fill in
the missing bits in the original Parish registers?
They are often very useful when the original PR
is missing or partly damaged/unreadable etc.

Jill,
I think that's correct. I correspond with Dorothy from time to time and
believe we are related and to you as well now. Did you know that she'd moved
to Hove recently? I've many CHANT's in Whiteparish to the 1900's but not
much after.
As you may have gathered from my recent E-mails, until recently I thought
the Whiteparish CHANT's were related to Hampshire and it's only since
getting the 1851 Census for Wiltshire on CD-ROM that I realised there were 2
John CHANT's and the one that married Lucy LIGHT was from Homington.
Unfortunately the Homington PR's are very patchy from the 1760's to 1810 so
there's a bit of guesswork involved but I think Jonathon and Elizabeth are
the only CHANT family there at that time.
I think I'm related to James son of Jonathon CHANT and Elizabeth MARCHMAN(T)
although my 3rd great grandfathers' (William CHANT circa 1803) baptism
doesn't appear either. I've got most of the PR's for South Wiltshire on
microfiche from the WRO so can check anything fairly easily. I can send you
a copy of the family tree if you'd like. Can you use GEDCOM files or TEXT
files? I'd have to send a floppy via the post as I only have this E-mail at
work.
Andy.

Hi Andy
I think I am descended from John Chant and Lucy Light of Whiteparish.
If they had a son called William born in 1808. I have only seen
transcripts of the parish registers, and they are unclear, on who his
parents
are.
I have a family tree of the Chants of Homington, prepared
by Dorothy Balchin. She records 5 children of Jonathon
Chant and Elizabeth Marchman.
Martha 1768 -
John Chant born in 1772, died 1772
Jonathon 1773 - 1845
James 1783 - 1785
Hannah 1786 -
So John of Whiteparish is perhaps another unrecorded son.
Dorothy has been working on the Homington Chants for some time. She is
descended from Jonathon the younger.
Good hunting
Jill
