Hello again Allan,
You recorded John Henry's wife as Mary Ann in your posting when I had put Ann
Mary. Was this purely a slip of the pen? Do you have Ann Mary Chant nee Finn
from Middlesex daughter of John Finn and Elizabeth nee Scott as dying at age
35 (5009 of 1879)?
In Tasmania she is recorded as Ann FINN. My recording as Mary Ann was a slip.
I have not looked at the associated B,D & M's in Victoria for this family
as I assume
by your previous emails that you have already gone down this path. If not I can
extract this family from the Victorian CD's to 1985 (deaths) and 1920
(births and marriages) and compile a tree. I am in the process of compiling
Samuel's
descendants (from Tassie).
For Michael...........
Samuel CHANT from Tasmania is interesting. He departed England on the
'Dromedary'
on 11 Sep 1819. He married a Carmilla STOKER and had some children in 1830's
and 1840's. He died on 2 Dec 1876 aged 82 years, resulting in a birth year
around
1794. Most Tassie (and probably some Victorian) CHANTS descend from this
family.
The only other CHANT convicts to Tasmania were:
William CHANT ex Portsmouth Port on 'Lord William Bentinck' on 14 Apr 1838
and Edward Charles CHAUNT ex London Port on 'Mandarin' on 29 Feb 1840.
Have not located anything further re these chaps in Tasmania who may have
moved to Australian mainland or back to England at completion of their
sentences. I need to sit down one day and plot all CHANTS in Tasmania and
Victoria, if it hasn't been done, and try to establish the arrivals into
these Australian States. NSW is much more of a problem because of the
numbers and that the index records do not reveal as much detail as Victoria.
Regards...........Allan
