Hello Sean
As discussed offlist, your proposal has merit.
My problem is was Betty's baptism soon after birth?
There is a baptisms for two sons named Charles maybe?
1763 JAN 18 Sarah NOAKE child of Charles & Mary
1767 MAR 20 Charles & Mary NOAKE children of Charles & Mary
1773 AUG 21 Charles & Betty children of Charles & Mary TOAKE
1775 DEC 08 Ann child of Charles & Mary NOAKE
rechecked 1799 marriage entry and is Eliz Noake where X was placed.
regards
Michael Cheeseman

Hello Michael,
Had another look at the Dorset OPC and noticed that Betty's entry has
transcribed wrongly under the name TOAKE instead of NOAKE:
Interestingly her brother Charles may well have been a twin as they
were baptised the same day.
Charles & Betty children of Charles & Mary TOAKE baptised “ 21

Hello Michael,
Sorry for the late reply, just too much going on.
Anyhow these are my thoughts on Elizabeth Noake.
It has bothered me for a while that her baptismal date of 1778 does
not fit with either the 1841 census where she is listed as Betty
Chant aged 68 and her death cert of 1848 has her listed as being 76
years old at the time of her death. Both of these dates/ages suggest
she was born c.1773.
Recently I came across a baptismal record for a Betty Noake on the
IGI for August 1773 at Sherborne, daughter of Charles Noake and Mary
Torrent. The age fits perfectly. Interestingly this baptism is not
recorded on the Dorset Online Parish Clerk webpage, although the
dates are covered for that time period.
I have always been intrigued why Elizabeth and George Chant named
their first born child Charles bap 1800. If Elizabeth's father was
indeed Charles then this would explain matters. Also a witness to
Elizabeth and George's wedding of 1799 is a Charles Noake. Betty
Noake bap 1773 had a brother called Charles. This could well be him.
It is also worth noting that Elizabeth is named as Betty on the 1841
census, reflecting her baptismal name.
I reckon given the weight of evidence listed above there is a very
good chance indeed that Elizabeth was in fact Betty baptised 1773
daughter of Charles and Mary. At this stage I am not sure of the
relationship between Charles Snr and THomas Noake who married Mary
Nossiter. Could they be brothers ?
Charles Noake was married to Mary Torrent on the 25th Oct 1762; other
known siblings of Betty at this stage are Sarah; Charles; Mary and
Ann.
Let me know what you think Michael.
Regards,
Sean
