Hello Carly
I usually look at the less common name to see what I can find. In this case
'Hugh'.
I have looked at the entry on the IGI which refers to William and Catherine
as parents:
Birth 12 April 1872
Christening 24 May 1872 Broad Chalk, Wiltshire, England
It seems strange that the only 1872 Hugh I can find on Free BMD is registered
in London (St Saviour, Southwark). This was in June 1872 quarter with a death
registered in the same district March 1873 quarter. Without sending for
certificates I cannot be 100% certain this is the same chap but am basing this
reply on that probability as age at death is given as 0. On this basis he was
taken back to the family church to be christened? The other children you show all
come from that general area of what is now London.
William and Catherine seem to have married in the Islington registration
district in the June 1869 quarter. The 1901 census, to which you refer shows:
9713297 399855 Chant Wm. 56 Wilts London St Marylebone Bacon Dryer
0112/142
9713298 399855 Chant Catherine 57 N Wales London St Marylebone
0112/142
9713299 399855 Chant Jas 22 Lambeth London London St Marylebone
Grocery Ware Houseman 0112/142
9713300 399855 Chant Harry 19 Lambeth London London St Marylebone
0112/142
9713301 399855 Chant Chas 16 Lambeth London St Marylebone 0112/142
I can't see a 17 year old. Have you got Charles from two sources with
slightly different dates?
Hope these additional bits help in some way.
Cheers,
John
