To All
Thanks for the chance to discuss this again and if another post list all
the details like I have and come up with another conclusion then please let
me know.
My ancestor is through Ruby Chloride Chant. She marries twice and it is her
second marriage to a Martin.
Thanks for letting me know that the Henry Chant?s have their own clear identities.
I have become more convinced that Thomas from Temora is my GG Grandfather
after reading the threads and putting it together here. The connection is
the marriage certificate to his second marriage listing his parent?s names.
It would be interesting to know where others think that Thomas from Temora
came from? How did he get to Australia? Where was he born? Why has the Thomas
from Temora married so late in life and is it just coincidence that this
is after the other Thomas has deserted his wife Lucy? Ann was originally
an Adelaide girl and this would be an even greater link to Thomas coming
from the Burra area and meeting Ann but why is the marriage in Victoria?
Ann died before Thomas so many secrets really went to the grave. If she had
survived Thomas could this discussion have been any different and what history
has been left for the family to now pass on?
The ages are very close together and this could easily be due to his poor
literacy skills or even to deceive any tracing of him.
I know I am putting some confronting questions and some people more experienced
in this may dismiss this but if you have information to 100% debunk this
theory then please let me know ASAP. We will be meeting some other historians
the middle of next week who may even be able to shed some light on Thomas?
movements and life in his area.
Ann?s maiden name Clark does appear in news articles in Thomas? area of living
so this will be a line that I will be tracing.
Anyhow I need to move onto work and will check further developments today.
Regards
Grant M

Good to hear from you Grant. It was interested to read through your
detailed posting. I think the record was set straight last year as
regards the 'boatbuilding" confusion. Quite a few of us did wrongly
attribute your Henry Chant to the boatbuilder but quickly realised
there was another Henry Chant in SA from a Devon branch who was in
fact a boatbuilder. My posting re this was only a few days after the
ones you quote in your posting
http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/CHANT/2006-07/1153307983
Your explanation of what happened to Thomas's first wife Lucy fills
in gaps for me. Thanks.
I am not sure if your convinced that the Thomas Chant who died in
Temora in 1907 is yours ? I actually have his death cert somewhere, I
will have to dig it out. I do know there are no details of his
parents. I also have a marriage cert for his son Frederick in 1905. I
posted details of this last year too. What is your take on this Grant ?
I have been in touch with descendants of Thomas second family in NSW
in the past in the Dubbo area, when I was eliminating people from my
wife's line some 8 or 9 years ago. I have also been in touch with
Alexander's family, that is Thomas's brother family in the Young
district of NSW, which is not too far from Temora. I myself live only
45 mins from Young.
Grant I would be interested to know how you are descended from
Thomas, without mentioning living people of course onlist.
The list was vibrant last year. A lot of people put in a lot of work
to try to tie up loose ends, especially in branches they had no
direct connection with. I reckon between the lot of us we did a great
job. Perhaps we can pick up where we left off at some time in the
future. As for myself I am just too busy writing up sections of my
own book. It is far too easy to get sidetracked......just like I am
doing now.
Regards,
Sean
