My apologies Barbara but I realise that I made an error in my earlier
message re the children of William and Elizabeth nee Male - should have read
Jabez, Thomas, Mary, Anna Marie (listed in 1841 as Hannah), Emma and
Alexander.
But perhaps I should also have mentioned that this William is definitely NOT
the William born in 1795 - that William, born in Odcombe and baptised at
the Bower Hinton Independent Chapel son of Robert and Sarah nee Kellaway, is
mentioned in his Fathers 1836 Will, marries in 1837, lived in Odcombe in
1841 and 1851 with his wife and daughter (and a descendent from that line
has documented evidence that William was renting land from his brother
Joseph prior to 1849)and dies and is buried in Odcombe aged 63. This William
whose occupation is listed as Gardener, could along with his wife and like
his parents and siblings sign his name whereas William who marries Elizabeth
Male is a Glover and neither he nor Elizabeth could sign their names.
As mentioned although the correct death certificate won't provide the names
of the parents of William who marries Elizabeth Males, hopefully it might at
least provide an approximately correct age which would help narrow down any
possible other William's in the area who might be a candidate.
Regards
Christine

Hallo Barbara
I agree with you that the Death certificate of this particular William Chant
is required and I have never come across anyone who actually has a copy of
it but unfortunately the Death certificate when you order it (unlike
Australian ones) will not provide the information regarding his parentage
and there is actually no proof from his 1831 marriage entry in the Stoke sub
Hamdon parish registers of his birthplace as being Martock. You mention his
birth as being approximately 1795 but that would make his marriage quite
late and I would have thought he could have been born as late as circa 1812.
(I actually have his children listed as Jabez, Thomas, Anna Marie (and she
could also be listed as Mary and Hannah, Emma and Alexander but no William).
Regards
Christine

these connections. DEATH CERTIFICATE OF WILLIAM CHANT (BELIEVED TO HAVE
