Hello cousin Rikki
have I contacted you before by phone?
I am a 3x and 4x great grandson of James Chant (1816-1876) via his sons Luke Chant my 3x
great grandfather and Richard
Chant my 2x great grandfather. Nice to hear from another descendant of Samuel, though not
from Alfred's line descendant's for sometime. What is your query?
Sorry but only our Sherborne line is confirmed to 1765
from Prmary records, Where did you get 1728 from?
Be careful as I first had George Chant married to Elizabeth Crabb in 1796 as our line and
everyone else
followed that line of thought til George and Elizabeth's 1799 marriage was located.
I have been researching the family since 1979 and sent Sean Leyland some of my info when
he started researching in
1997. We were working on a book together but as time went on that seems to have changed.
I have Samuel's Biography well developed as with all his siblings but Alfred's
need's more work on Bio and Photo's
for himself and family. Any help there would be appreciated.
Your Aware Samuel, Ann and Elizabeth stayed around Albury
while five siblings and a cousin went to Wagga then Dubbo?
I also connect to Mary Chant nee Bunter's brothers Luke Bunter (came to WA where
Richard and Luke Chant later met up with their Bunter Cousins and Willam Bunter - Richard
Chant married his cousin as did brother James. Robert, James son of George and a bunter
cousin married Mudford's girls descended from the West Chinnock Chant's. I have
been researching the Chant name in general since 1980's due to the West Chinnock link
and many queries about stoke sub hamdon, Oborne, Milbourne Port cahnt lines so I have
research for 16 Primary Chant 1700's families in the Somerset/Dorset/Wiltshire areas
to which 90% of all Chant records can be linked. Some info has come from Chant list
members and some from descendant's directly as well as my own research in historical
records, assistance from the Dorset and Somerset record Offices as well as local town
historians in various Dorset and Somerset Locality's such as a Sherborne local who
sent me the Chant and associated family Burials details
It is likely the Chant's all descend from a family of Chaunt's in Somerset early
1400 AD I have from an old
archives parchment. Proving that is the hard part.
regards
Michael Cheeseman
P.S. My name comes up a lot on a internet search, with
Chant research notes as well as hundred's of other
families I have researched. In all over 3000 of my
direct ancestor's have been traced to date. My earliest traced ancestors date 495 AD
in England and about 760 AD France. 1 in three of my ancestral lines I have back to 1538,
the start of Baptism, marriage amd Burial records by the Church. My Cheeseman's I have
back to The commonwealth period a gap that is often a roadblock for many as records were
not keep from 1640's to 1660's.
