Terribly sorry Michael and everyone, I had copied the wrong date from the
list of births... Have now corrected my records.. I have only 11 children

Hi everyone ...
While away I extracted a few emails on Library visits, and one was
concerning the above subject.
John wrote 21/1/2003. I have a printout but not the original message.
He mentioned James Chant 1749/50 married Lydia Brake with children James,
William, Lydia, Mary, Anne, Sarah and James. Three of them married GAYLARD.
Gilbert John Chant married Julia Gaylard.
Daniel Thomas Chant married Mary Ann Gaylard
Christopher Gaylard married Eva Bessie Chant.
Re the question of James'parents - I have they were Thomas Chant 1710/1778
and wife Sarah ?? 1712/1787. Thomas parents were Thomas 1665 and Mary
virgin 1669. His parents were Thomas 1630/1670 and Gartheret (Gertrude)
Henry. His parents William Chaunt 1603/1642 and Edith Stone 1607/1667. His
parents William Chaunt 1563/1614and Alice White 1567/1633.
I have two Chant rundowns ...... my own which comes from Robert Chant born
1700 married to Sisterly/Cecily, which has 8500 names. Gilbert, Daniel
and Christopher are in that list.
The other is Robert Chant born 1719 which I am only just starting and has
150 names as yet. However, the James lot are in that list.
born
I would appreciate a "Robert 1719" rundown if anyone is willing to supply it
to me.
Thanks.
Beryl Renton in Brisbane.

Dear Michael,
I got this information from Duncan Weir's site:
1806 2nd May Chant Geo:e Son Jn.o & Jane Born 19th Apr 1806
St Marys Stoke Ba Reg 1720-1812
Was unaware that these parish records were not correct... I was of the
opinion that they were transcripts of Parish Registers.

Hello Roberta,
Looking at the 1880 U.S. census it seems as if Martha would have been only 15
at the time she conceived. Would it have been legal at the time for her to be
married to William?
Cheers,
John
Hi all
At present the line Isaac Chaunte we could refer to as the East Tytherly,
Hampshire/Mere, Fisherton Anger, Hindon Wiltshire/
Chaunte (modern Chant) ancestral line.
Scott's line I have as:
1 Isack CHANTE
+An DRADGE m: 1653/54 Mere Wilts.
2 Ambrose CHANTE
2 John CHANTE d: Bef. 1696
2 Hugh CHANTE
+Ruth
3 Isack CHANTE (Isaac Chant) b: 1684
+Mary (P)(M)ERREN m: 1708 Salisbury
4 John CHANTE
4 Mary CHANTE
4 James CHANTE
4 Ruth CHANTE
4 Elizabeth CHANTE
+Jane GILBERT m: 1726/27 St Thomas Salisbury
4 Nicolas CHANTE
4 James CHANTE
4 John Chant b: 1732
+Ann READ OR REED m: 1756 Salisbury Wilts.
5 Mary Chant
5 Thomas Chant
5 Elizabeth Chant
5 Thomas Chant
5 John CHAUNT
5 Ann CHAUNT
5 James CHAUNT
5 George Chant b: 1762 West Tytherley,
The Combe Bisset, Homington Wiltshire Chant line
Jonathon Chant married 1717 to Mary Laws of Combe Bisset/
Homington Wilts has not been linked to Isaac's line at present.
Due to not knowing Jonathon's parentage.
Elizabeth wife of George Holley comes down
Jonathon and Mary,
Jonathon and Elizabeth Merchant,
daughter Martha married partnered three or four times.
First partner name unknown
daughter Elizabeth Chant married George Holley
While the suggestion is Jane Chant was the daughter of William Chant
from Issac's line :
1 Isack CHANTE
+An DRADGE m: 1653/54 Mere Wilts.
2 Ambrose CHANTE
Benjamin Chant
John Chant and Mary Harvey
John Chant married Mary Clement
William married Peggy Snell
Jane Chant m Henry Ingram
Though I didn't have Jane Ingram nee Chant as William and Peggy's daughter
just children Mary Anne, John, Virtue, Elizabeth and James Chant. Can
someone researching the Wiltshire lines
clarify this.
Scott I only had five children for Isack Chant and Mary P/Merren
Also for Isack Chaunte's sons and brothers? of Ambrose I lack any dates for
Hugh and
brother John who I have little on. Would appreciate supporting evidence of
links.
Would appreciate Andy a updated Gedcom for Hastings and Mere Lines.
Also from other Wiltshire researchers any data on Wiltshire lines
you wish to share.
A lot of entries I have lack dates such as baptisms to connect children to
parents in many cases.
While various lines appear to fit together Baptisms as proof
are lacking in my notes.
Sorry I haven't spent enough time on the Wiltshire Chant lines as I would
like.
Especially as I decend from Wiltshire families Ingram and Day from Fovant,
Sutton Manderville, Barford, Salisbury in Wiltshire.
I would appreciate Wiltshire researchers updating me on
details of the various lines. As I understand it there are still
three yet to be connected Wiltshire lines.
1 Issack Chaunte 1600's being the oldest and possibly tracing
back to Somerset.
2 Jonathon Chaunt 1700's Combe Bisset/Homington
3 Richard Chant 1785 St Thomas, Salisbury.
There are still many Chant lines with missing descendant details
of side branches for sisters and brothers of direct ancestors.
Some of these of course are likely to have died young. Please
remember tracing burials or descendants/marriages of sibling
lines is important in getting closure or new cousins for other
than your direct line. Many Parishes have not been searched may
hold many details of missing lines.
To Date Sherborne, Oborne, Odcombe, Henstridge, Marnhull, West Chinnock,
Stoke Sub Hamdon and Wiltshire lines have not yet been found to connect
to each other.
Currently I'm heavily involved in tracking down PR entries to confirm
data I have. Were I have data from others, I class it as unconfirmed
possiblely correct but needs confirmation.
I would like to emphasise that data needs to be verified other than from
the IGI or LDS WEBSITE. Entries there have been found to not exist or be
inaccurate when compared to the original registers.
regards
Michael Cheeseman

Subject: Re: [CHANT] Wiltshire Chants
Hi Pat,
I too am descended from the Wiltshire Chants. Actually, a couple
gen's above John Chante and Mary Harvey. I got all of my info from Andy
Chant (above my g great grandmother, Jane Chant) What I have differs from
what you have as far as the children names and such. I'm sure we'll hear
from Andy after he reads your initial E-mail from yesterday. So
theoretically, you have connected the Wiltshire Chants to Australia now.
Hmmm. What has Michael got to say? What stinks for me is I can't discern
which info is correct (yours or Andy's) since I don't have access to those
kinds of records. That is why I am on the list.
What I have as John Chaunt's ancestors are as follows:
Isack CHANTE
+ An DRADGE
Ambrose (Snr.) CHAN(N)T(E) b: mar 17, 1660/61 Mere Wilts.
+Grace b: 1661 Fisherton Anger Salisbury Wilts.
Benjamin CHANT d: Feb 6, 1746/47
+ Margarett DOVE
John CHAUNT (CHANT)
+ Mary HARVEY
I descend from Isack. I (from Andy) have the people you have but the
children are different or missing or too many. I guess we'll have to figure
it out.

My great grandfather was Joseph Walker Chant. I am trying to locate background information on his father, William Chant who appears in the U. S. census records of Coryell County, Texas in 1870, born in England, married to Martha M. Connell. William Chant died or disappeared before 1880 Census. Martha M. Connell and 5 little Chants are with Brown Cody Roberts, and eventually 7 little Roberts are produced. We do not know the beginnings or ending of William Chant. Are there any stories in the Chant families of a William Chant who was GTT? (Gone to Texas, a popular saying in those days.) Thanks to all Chant trackers! Roberta, rnunnkostka(a)msn.com
Hi Listers and Janette
I have George CHANT born 19/12/1805 from the parish records
to John and Jane (Ford) CHANT...
