I received the following information and wonder if anyone out there can add
to this please.
"I have an Alfred CHANT ( no background) who married Catherine MANSFIELD in
1862 ( this marriage could have been in Geelong Victoria) Catherine was the
sister of my husband's G Grandfather William"
I will pass on anything and will check if she would like to join the list.

Hello Beryl,
I think this is the chap I queried a few weeks ago as being a woodman from
Montacute. His son Herbert was a private in the Canadian Expeditionary Force
and married Kathleen Chant daughter of Tom Chant and Elizabeth nee Terrell at
St Mary the Virgin Stoke 21 12 1918.
Nothing of mine on file about the rest of the family but Free BMD has a
William and a Mary Jane Woodman in the list for Yeovil marriages Dec Qtr 1887
and if they are the right partners this could be them.
Cheers,
John

I really need to know who Joseph's family might have been as my folk come
from Stoke. Any clues please?
John
The only reference I have found to Erland Chant is on a Criddle tree where I
have written to Marlin Criddle.
I think the occupation for Alfred in 1901 is very much tongue in cheek and
implies that Hubert was a little pest with Anna (or Annie) probably being the
chief inspector of nuisance (although that is not shown in the census).
No problem John. My thunder as far as Chant family research goes is more
like a whimper! LOL
I am on the list but haven't engaged in any banter re: my Chant line
because, as I said before, I am not really researching it at the moment and
other lines are keeping me occupied. I am keeping my eyes open for anything
that might help me take the line further than Newfoundland but for the time
being, since I couldn't prove the line given me previously to my own
satisfaction, I am sitting with the little bit that I know for fact.
MUN (Memorial University of Newfoundland) Histories have a notation on file
that states that the Chant family from Newfoundland came from Dorset. This
is new compared to what was on the old site and adds a new twist to any
research I might do on the line if, and when, I find the time.
In the meantime - still all of the thunder you want <grin> and I hope
everyone enjoys the website!
Cheers,

Brister?
Going by the IGI their were two Sylvesters to Thomas & Mary Chant, nee
Sandford 1820 and 1825. The IGI also has an Adam Chant 1820 to Thomas &
Mary.
I would appreciate any help please.
Keith Hayden
Hi Keith
Further to Beryl's email, if you are following the line in which Harriet
Chant (daughter of Sylvester Chant) is married to Stephen Inder, I would be
happy to provide further information, as this is my direct line.
Best wishes
Victoria Germain
Hello Listers,
I don't know if Ronda Wicks has joined the list yet. She was thinking of
doing so and although I don't want to steal her thunder see that she has
posted details of her new web site on the Somerset L-List. Those of us who
had missed seeing her old site will be pleased to see her Canadian Chant
families again.
www.angelfire.com/folk/wicksgen/home.htm
Sorry Ronda, if you are here, but I don't think you can be yet as I haven't
seen anything you have posted.
Cheers,
John

Subject: {not a subscriber} Connection with HALLETT, West Chinnock
I've re-subscribed after quite an absence on the list. Interested
mainly in CHANT Wiltshire connections, though some connect with
PATTEMORE and HALLETT names in Somerset.
John, your message in July 2002 mentioned a WILLIAM CHANT chr. 1831 who
married Eliza Slade at Yeovil and who died 1860.
I believed this WILLIAM was the one listed in the 1881 Census for West
Chinnock whose parents were GEORGE CHANT and ANN HALLETT:
Dwelling: East Field
Census Place: West Chinnock, Somerset, England
Source: FHL Film 1341575 PRO Ref RG11 Piece

Middle, not West Chinnock)

If this is not so, can anyone tell me where this WILLIAM and HANNAH fit
in?
Thank you.

Hello Listers,
One of my contacts has a problem with James and wife, Mary nee Mudford's
offspring, particularly George.
There are a lot of George Chants about at the time and she needs to prove
that her George is the one who married Ann Hallett 25.7.1824 West Chinnock.
Has anyone yet obtained a birth certificate or better still a marriage
certificate for George please? Is there any other proof that anyone is able
to quote so that the lady may obtain her own concrete evidence?
A number of you claim this line, although there are only the most tenuous
connections with mine, so far as we know.
Thanks,
John
