Hello Dorothy,
The rundown on the Garrett family aside, (I had nothing about these people,)
you gave me a couple of 'new' children for Mark Robert Newton Chant and
Katherine, thank you.
I take it the dates of birth you entered were for the Chants and not their
spouses as it came out in that order?
Harry, I had as Henry Robert and that he married a Florence.
Ernest I had as born 11.11.1914
Richard I had as born 21.1.1934
I was a bit confused by the last paragraph where you refer to Mildred Geneva
(Lease) Chant: she wasn't was she? If so how please?
All that aside it looks as if you want to go up from Mark R.N. Chant's
parents.
Mark Chant 1.2.1855 West Chinnock - 16.3.1891 Leeds County, Ontario
married 7.3.1881 Daytown, Leeds, Ontario
Sarah Alice Littlejohn 14.7.1861 - 30.6.1932
They had seven children including M.R.N.C.
After Mark's death she married George Bradley
They had two children
Levi Chant 1828 West Chinnock - 1874
married 4.9.1851 Middle Chinnock
Mary Ford 1833 Middle Chinnock -
They had four children including Mark
After Mary's death he married Joanna/Ann Salway/Sully
They had seven children
After Levi's death she married John Hann
They had four children
George Chant 1799 West Chinnock - 30.9.1860 West Chinnock
married 25.7.1824 West Chinnock
Ann Hallett 1802 West Chinnock - 29.8.1879 West Chinnock
They had ten children including Levi
Since I don't want to bore any more of the other readers and send them off to
sleep, that will do.
If anyone wants to correct any of the above please feel free. Dorothy might
also welcome some input from others of you whose families I have mentioned
but glossed over in the numbering of the children in bulk rather than
individualising them.
Usual health warnings apply: always verify information for yourself.
Cheers,
John

Dear John and Listers,
I got so carried away awith myself when I read about William CHANT, I got
the messages a bit mixed. The first mentioned was not the William I was
talking about. It was the William CHANT died 1851 that got me so excited as
this was the first reference I have seen of him.
Sorry if I confused you all.
Regards
Joan

Dear John,
You perform miracles over and over again. This is the William CHANT That I
have been looking for for simply ages. I knew he had passed away before the
family came to Australia but never knew what happened to him. His wife was
Elizabeth MALE and she and Mary Ann, Anna Marie, Alexander and Thomas and
wife Lucy RUSS all came to Australia in the ship Octavia in 1855, partly
sponsored by the eldest son Jabez CHANT and his wife Maria GUPPY. As
Alexander was only 9 years of age then I knew William had to be alive round
1845/6. Is there any other info on him like when he was when he died or any
other info.
Regards
Joan

Hello John,
I have found on the net a Ann Chant married Silas Gray 7/6/1817 West
Chinnock and they had:
Thomas c1819; William 1821; Joseph 29/12/1821; Jane 1829; Eliza c1833;
Patience c 1834; Jemima 1836.
I wonder if the William above is the husband of Harriet Chant and how the
above Ann fits in??
Just another mystery!!
Regards
Keith Hayden
Hello Keith,
Thanks very much.
I have some Chant/Gray marriages but this one had passed me by. The
interesting thing is that the granddaughter, Elizabeth, is mentioned as 3 in
the 1851, which should mean there are other children as well if you look at
the large gaps.
Cheers,
John

I have replied to your email as it is rather large. My Chants and Pattemores went to Canada - Mark Chant married Louisa Pattemore in 1863 Ontario, Canada and I have a great many in my rundown.

Hello Listers
The above is from Gordon Beavington's transcription of the 1851 census for
Odcombe.
I have recorded a William son of Robert and brother of Onesiphorus. William
died 1851. Onesiphorus married Susanna (Hanah) Kingwell.
Can anyone confirm that the above is a related family please?
Cheers,
John
Hello Listers
With these two tinkers living next to each other and enjoying the same
occupation, are they likely to be related?

John is a widower, a thatcher living at South Street, West Chinnock with an
unmarried daughter Elizabeth born West Chinnock 1866/67, a shirt maker. (At
least he is the likeliest candidate to be the same chap.)
Sampson, now described as a dealer, and Maria are at 4 Chinnock Hollow, East
Chinnock with a daughter Ann born East Chinnock 1859/60
I have a couple of Sam(p)sons in my line but they are both from
Stoke-sub-Hamdon. I have seen one about somewhere who was a gardener but
can't tie these families in anywhere. Please shout if you can.

John
Hello Listers,
I picked Josiah to focus on as I haven't got a single one listed.

An interesting combination of family names. This Lavinia isn't the only one
I've got, who is in my line, and there aren't that many Charlottes about
until my family leaves England.
Anyone help with these please?

Hello Listers,

There could very well be a connection. Amos Garrett married Matilda Geneva Lease in Swan Lake SD and the eventually moved to Saskatawan Canada around Moosejaw. They had I think 7 children, one was Delbert, who lived in Mn around Floodwood for a time, then I think he moved make to Canada. Unfortunatley, I have all my Garrett infor in my rv which I will be going to next week. Plan to work on genealogy in warmer weather. I believe Amos Garrett was buried in Moosejaw. I know the Chant's are related as I have an old letter that a Chant from Moosejaw wrote to the Garrett's in Couerd 'elene Idaho many years ago, but we have lost track of the family and want to reconnect. Anything here help you to place your Chant's with the Garrett's? I think there may be a connection.

Hi all.....
In reply to Janette - I have that the Emma married to William Chant born
1826 Montacute was christened 16/3/1826 Montacute and her surrname was BULL.
She was a glover. I did not have the five children's names and have now
entered them - but have no further informationn on them.
I have that the 1851 Montacute census says they were then at Odcombe. They
were lodgers at 23 Glover Street, Odcombe - He was 26 and she was 23.

Hello Joan,
I had Jane Ford 1755 West Chinnock-1826 Stoke-sub-Hamdon married John Chant
at Chiselborough 24 1 1778, with her husband born 1756 West Chinnock.
If Jane was born Chiselborough it would explain why the marriage took place
there.
The other dates are as I had them.
Thanks a lot,
John
