Hi Cousins!
I am a Channell descendent and am currently looking for descendents of Thomas and Eunice
(Williams) Channell. They lived in Cherokee, Butte County, California in the mid
1860's. Eunice, baby daughter Olive, and young son Mortimer died there in 1864 and
1865. There were three other children, a daughter and two sons. The father and the sons
stayed in California but shipped the daughter back east to live with relatives when Eunice
died. Later, when the railroad was completed across the country, it is said the father,
Thomas, brought his sons back east and returned, by himself, to the west. In later years
the two boys, then adults, joined their father in Phoenix, AZ where he had a working mine.
When Thomas died one of the sons stayed on there and the other went to California or
elsewhere. Thomas died in Phoenix and is said to be buried there.
Does anyone know of these Channells? Does anyone know where I can find any of their
descendents living today? I have recent pictures of the graves of Eunice, Olive, and
Mortimer and would like to share them with their family.
I "stumbled" upon these graves about 5 years ago when I lived near Cherokee and
have pictures of them then. I recently went back to California and visited the graves once
again, this time clearing them off and placing flowers on them. I also took pictures then.
I would very much like to find a family member and pass these photos onto them. Please
contact me with any information at joycewva(a)swbell.net , or mountaineer79(a)hotmail.com .
Thank you,
Joyce
